"I can't say enough about Sheila and Rick Farstad and their stunning collection of curlies at Prairie Ponderosa. Sheila, Rick and their trainer Sevi, are the perfect combination to give the curlies all that they could possibly need in the way of loving discipline, the best nutrition and medical care, an excellent farrier who works miracles with the young ones starting out, and regular exercise on the ample acreage in their countryside, for the curlies that are trained to ride. Her prices are fair and reflect all the hard work that goes into raising this amazing breed of horse. |
| Regarding Silver: "Prairie Hi-Ho Silver" is the epitome of the curly personality and physical make up. He is compact, with solid bone structure, and well proportioned. His personality is varied and interesting, as he can be a clown with us and the other horses, and loves to tease the dogs sometimes, but he is also a disciplined, reflective stallion in the round pen when learning his lessons and standing for our farrier. He learns so quickly and it never ceases to amaze me when I see him respond, think, and then give what he is being asked for. We believe his pedigree to be one that would compliment many curly herds in America and Europe and hope that he can begin to start proving himself in the years to come. Silver's first foal is expected in April/09 with one of Hawke's Midnite Shadow's offspring, "Dixie". ~Deb from Manitoba |

"My husband and I moved from Germany to Canada in February 2007. I had heard of Curly horses before, but never met them personally. Luckily we found out our neighbours were breeding them. I fell in love with them all instantly, especially with Prince. Because I was missing my horses from back home, Rick and Sheila offered to let me help with the horses and I was able to see how different this breed is compared to other breeds. I had a thoroughbred and a drafthorse in Germany. When Sheila told me, that I could buy Prince I couldn't believe my luck. He follows me everywhere, in the garage, up on the deck to see what is going on in the kitchen and he even shares coffee with my husband. Fenny, one of our dogs can ride on him, even without a halter on him. I really enjoy him every day, and I can't wait that the snow is gone, so we can go for trailrides." ~Severine |

"I felt in love with *Prairie Hawk Moondance, aka Luna at first glance to the pic Sheila had posted; just hours old, almost white, filly captured my heart "just like that". And I can tell I am not especially a big fan of cream horses. Everyone knows that the second man in my life - after hubby - is my all black stallion. And, as Curly's breeders ourselves, we were not in need of an other horse, especially a foal as we had plenty of them in our own pastures. Weeks, then months passed, we sold all our babies and even some of our grow-up horses and Luna was still in this soft place in my heart, little ghost which haunted my thoughts. So, when almost a year had passed, I realized that Luna was still at Rick and Sheila's farm, not sold, not reserved! I did not think twice and sent Sheila's an e-mail, asking about Luna's availability. |
| 2 months later, Luna and her half-sister Windy were in my pasture. Windy is such a beautiful mare also, with some of the more beautiful gaits I have seen on a Curly (and Curlies have very nice gaits !) It happened that I received an offer for Windy from a French breeder and sometimes, you have to make choices and we decided to let Windy travels to France. But Luna is still here, sweet, mischevious sometimes, with this twinkle in her eyes when she makes fun at you and you can't resist to laugh, even if some seconds before you were ready to bite her. Luna will turn 3 years old this Spring and she will begin her - light - training under saddle. She learns quick and well, she is smart, kind, obstinate, kind of bomb proof... I just love her ! Thank you Sheila and Rick ! It was nice to work with you, you are honest and professional and you really care about your babies. I will work with you any time again." "In the breeding season of 2007, I had the fortune to have my big Percheron mare bred to *BNC Custer's Kid of Prairie Ponderosa Curlies of Saskatchewan, Canada. I was so happy with the kind attention and excellent care that my mare and her colt at side received while with Sheila Farstad - she is a great horsewoman and delightful to work with. In 2008, my Percheron mare presented us with an exceptional BIG black Curly filly that we called *Chrystal Bloom - I think *Chrystal might be the best foal yet from our mare and we are really excited and happy to have her. Thanks Sheila, *Kid and everyone else at Prairie Ponderosa!" Shelly White, BC Canada - Curly Standard Place. |

"We had the pleasure of meeting Rick and Sheila when we traveled to their farm and purchased Apache, and it has been such fun getting to be friends with them! Anyone who meets them can tell they love their horses, and they are breeding wonderful, healthy Curlies, from foundation bloodlines." Barbara , Tx - Stag Creek Farm. |

"In 2004, I was on a quest to find a nice quiet, curly gelding as a spare horse for beginner friends & family. I stumbled upon *Prairie Espresso Dream, a 3 year old gelding whose description caught my attention. He was younger than I wanted, but something urged me to email Sheila. She responded immediately with great detail and photos. Followed by a video of him under saddle. I was hooked! Espresso, now named Reese quickly became my personal riding mount - and best friend. In 4 years, we have been awarded ABCR's National High Point Reserve Champion, Versatility Grand Champion and Reserve Grand in the Frequent Rider Competition. We have also competed in 2 Competitive Trail Rides, taking 3rd place in a 12 mile & 25 mile ride. Thank you Rick & Sheila for making my dreams come true." "In August of 2007 I emailed Sheila asking about Emmy. I decided that she was what I wanted so Sheila and I worked out a payment plan. Emmy was paid in full in February of 2008. I made arrangements for Emmy to make the journey from SK to KY in March. When March rolled around, Emmy and another colt I'd purchased in Canada were picked up by the shipper I hired. The shipper was not prepared for a border crossing and tried to run the border. While the shipper was trying to find another crossing, she wrecked the trailer. Sheila's farm was the closest farm available. Sheila and Rick opened their home to the shipper and their farm to the 4 horses that were on the trailer. |
| The shipper left them with the horses and flew home. Sheila and Rick cared for those horses and helped them get to their homes. One horse was abandoned with them and they found him a good home. They kept my two horses for the two months it took me to get up there to get them. When I came to get my horses, Rick and Sheila met us at the border. They are the nicest people!!! They opened their home to us and treated us like family. We'd been on the road for 3 days at that point and were in need of showers and real food. They provided that and more with a smile. I was so impressed with their horses. All the horses are fat and in awesome shape. And so friendly!! Walking out into their pasture was a curly lover's dream come true. I was immediately surrounded by curly noses! Not a single horse tried to nibble either. Kid was so calm and friendly, totally not stallion-like. We were only able to spend one night there but I'm planning on making it back there sometime! Emmy is a curly through and through. She's a thinker. Very little spooks her. I saddled her for the first time and it was a total non-issue. She's also HUGE! She's 15.2hh at 2.5 years old. She's also a total sweetheart though she is a one person horse. Luckily, I'm that person! I just can't say enough good things about Rick and Sheila, their place and their breeding program." Carrie in KY |
